🎧🎙 Maverick Talk 🚀🎧 - A pursuit for MASTERY

Five minutes that could transform your leadership and business forever.

THOUGHT

How do I build a culture of MASTERY?

A leader recently asked me how he could help his team embrace mastery more effectively.

Observing what Maverick leaders KNOW and DO over the last two decades has given me an understanding that mastery is implemented into how Mavericks do anything.

It’s more a pursuit than a practice.

You can feel this unmistakable intent when you visit the company, engage with the leaders, or interact with their people.

For them, mastery is the desire to constantly improve their people’s or the organisation’s capabilities through learning and practice.

Mavericks set their mind to lead their people and their organisation on a journey to mastery by activating an obsessive focus on ensuring the highest standards, values-connected team behaviours and a common purpose that fosters a culture where the pursuit of mastery flourishes.

They develop and follow systems that ruthlessly root out mediocrity, poor quality, inconsistent levels of excellence and a settling mindset that could derail living the purpose.

In the end, all this creates customer experiences that customers rave about and that...

...converts into strong, consistent results over time.

It’s necessary to put in the time, commitment and focus to achieve this level.

Do the work.

If there is true devotion, mastery can be one of your key competitive advantages as an individual or organisation.

You might ask - who does this well - here are a few I have observed over the years:

Are you and your team seeking mastery?

Yet it seems that many in the hospitality sector no longer want to connect with their guests!

I have experienced this three times within the last fortnight.....

When a crisis hits, unprepared teams freeze. Prepared ones adapt — because they’ve already rehearsed the hard stuff. Legendary Coach Bill Belichick said on being ready: “Preparation is never wasted, regardless of outcome.” This is true in kitchens, boardrooms, and football fields. THOUGHT Rethinking Profit: A New Era for Hospitality Inspired by a meaningful lunch with Lars Kure Juul — always a spark for Maverick thinking. What if the profits we’ve been chasing were never real? Just numbers built on borrowed time and borrowed trust? For too long, we’ve treated the planet, our teams, and our guests as infinite resources. But now, the cracks are showing. People are tired. Landing…not launchingI’m treating the first weeks of the year as a landing, not launchingI no longer tend to view January 1st as a fresh start, a new beginning……but a continuation of the life and impact I’m trying to build.I believe that all this extra pressure on our lives is for no good reason. Just look at the amount of “new-year-new-me” content out there right now.January isn’t the start of a new...
